Ideas for fonts for our title

Feedback to Intricate Simplicity

-Firstly, the music was said to be haunting and sad at the same time which added to the 'missing girl' effect.

-Our idea was said to have lots of potential which could consequently make our sequence really good.

-the use of photos, onto video's and back to photos creates variety, along with diegtic noise creates an atmosphere.

-our ideas were straight forward and easy to understand

-Our title was said to be very effective, its unusual and contradicting. when people read our title they will not automatically know what the film is about, therefore intreiging viewers to watch on.

- Our music was commented on in a negitive way also, however this is due to the fact our music was too short and we had to start it again half way through the animatic. On the real sequence our music will be low and run all the way through without pause.

thanks =)

T1-28 : THRILLER PROJECT 2007/8

First ideas:

Title: Intricate Symplicity

-4 girls are friends
-3 of the girls go missing 1 gets away
-showing flash backs of happier times as them as friends.
-after pictures the scene goes to the missing girl pictures, newspaper extract, maps, anitations etc.
-4th girl talking over top of police reports which will consist of,'no evidence found, We have a suspect' ect and paparazzi shots for exmaple journalists shouting 'do you know where they are? do you have any evidence!?' ect
-4th girl talks of statistics of missing children '10,000 children go missin everyyear'
-or 4th girl talking over a picture of the 4 girls- close in on 4th girl as she says something like ' i see my friends die, now hes coming for me and its my turn'
-if effect possible - picture of her burns/crumbles away then title pops up.

-ideas for sound? we need to use mainly diegetic sound like police voices and sirens, girls talking, mums screaming, there will maybe be a very quiet low music only audiable before voices and during the girl speaking.

-where will you shoot? our sequence will not require much filming out of college time therefore most can be filmed within college hours.

-what will you need? props-whiteboard with photos, maps, costumes- white shirts with tie.

-who will be in it? all of us will be in at - in photos.

-what problems can you forsee? maybe being a bit too short, might not be able to flow that well and be as clear to audience what is going on.

-when will you shoot it?

Silence of the Lambs

The first intial thing is that it is set in a forest. It is quite dark and eerie which sets the thriller genre. There is a lack of action which i think helps engage the audience. It also helps contribute to the cold and dark feeling of the forest. Ive learnt that the opening sequence doesnt need to be full of action to grab the audience's attention.
When we see the female character we do not know aht she is doing in the middle of the forest and we dont know why shes running. This builds up the tension and mystery. We then realise she is on an obstacle course and is working for the FBI.
The titles stand out as they are quite bold and big but a simple font has been used. They are in black which is dark and blends in with the thriller genre.
Diegetic and non-diegetic sounds are used within the sequence. The music had no lyrics and was mainly contained low pitched instruments. I think that this introduces the eeriness to the scene and makes the audience feel on edge. Birds flapping are then introduced and trees whistling. The music and sound effects have a great impact on the audience and this is something we will need to look at closely when making our thriller seqeunce.

'36' student thriller

Rachel and Leanne
The music (piano) becomes diagetic. the close up of the hands is effective, shows you who is playing it and that it is their own original music used.
The story line is really clear but is left with a cliff hanger and the thought.."Why has she been shot? Who has shot her?" The effects used in the dancing shot are really effective, we would like to develop a few ideas used for our own thriller sequence. The bus shots didnt fit in with the story line maybe they could have shown more of the killer/piano player? The light at the end was a bit out of time with the shooting sound. The contrast between the beginning and the end of the sequence is shown by the music suddenly changing from calm piano to a deep heartbeat sound which we think worked really well.

Amber&Leannnesmusic

We started this term by being introduced to two new programmes. Final cut and Garageband. Final cut is to be used for editing our sequence and Garageband is to be used to make our music for our sequence. On final cut we learnt how to import images and videos and how to cut and edit them. We also was taught how to add music over the top. In the practice session we made a short sequence of differnt landscape images with some music to go with it. This was just to show us the basics of final cut. We then had a look at the basics on garageband. We didn't get to use it at this stage but our teacher showed us all about it. As me and Amber were away on the day everyone else made their own short sequences we used another students when making our music in garageband. Garageband seemed pretty simple to use and there is a variety of music which can be used when making out thriller. We didnt spend much time on making the music for our sequence but what we did make was ok for our first attempt. I think when making our thriller music, it will need some deep thought into and will take quite a while as there are so many options of music and intrumentals. Below is our sequence and music.

Jade and Rach

We started our thriller sessions by being introduced to two new programmes needed inorder to create our sequence. The first of these programmes was final cut. On this we learnt how to import, cut and edit images and videos and how to add music over the top. We attempted to create a short title sequence by using landscape images from a short selection. We used many different techniques to make our sequence more interesting and imaginative, for example:
- over lap of images
- fading
- bouncing titles
- changing style and size of font
- cutting images shorter
- copying and pasting to make shots longer
- placed different music over top of images

Garage Band was the second programme introduced.
Thia allowed us to create our own music from putting short clips together. We do have the option to use clips from the computer/internet, or we can create and import our own music. We gained an overall introduction to the programme and got an insight on how to use the tools, for example:
- importing/deleting music clips
- layering the music
- shortening clips using copy and paste
- viewing the soundwaves

All of these will ready us for the construction of our thriller sequence.
